Do I still enjoy the job after 20 years?

In a couple of months’ time Kay Ransom Photography will be 20 years old and this has prompted the conversation with people on whether I still enjoy the job?

The answer in terms of the actual photo shoots is… yes! I think the reason is that it still hits the original brief of when I started my business, which, was to visit and to travel to new places / meet people I wouldn’t normally be able to access.

I will give you some examples, this year I was fortunate enough to photograph/ meet Rebecca Adlington, Mark Foster, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Dr Dawn Harper. This was a huge privilege and really interesting too, days like this keep adding value to my ongoing career.

Places I’ve been able to access this year or so have been: an inflatable smoke house training unit, a gorgeous lake snapping sailors and paddleboarders, many high end venues in London, several luxury hotels, a rifle range, an industrial washing machine storage warehouse, a biomass energy site, a trout farm, an inland beach, Universities various, Airbnbs various, an asylum seekers’ hotel and a couple of vineyards!

Historically, I’ve found myself on Lavender fields, The Camel Estuary, organic farms various, Abbey Road Studios, wakeboarding lakes, Brighton Pier, Brize Norton, The Royal Horseguards, The Roundhouse, a tree planting farm, Bath Roman Baths, the list goes on!

The elements I enjoy less are chasing the work and marketing, this is a fairly relentless task as many business owners know! Sometimes the networking is exhausting, especially the ones outside of the normal working day. However, I do appreciate that all jobs have their good areas and more challenging ones.

So, how long have *you* been in business? Are you still enjoying it?
